WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A 15-year-old boy died in what authorities called a possible drowning at Strawberry Reservoir Saturday afternoon.
Officials said a 911 call came in around 3:30 p.m. Saturday saying the teen had gone under the water and had not resurfaced.
Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby announced later in a press conference that an officer and some search and rescue members went free-diving while they waited for equipment to arrive and found the boy's body in an area about 15 feet deep. He had been under the water for about an hour, Rigby said, and while they attempted life-saving measures, he was ultimately pronounced dead.
Rigby urged anyone visiting Strawberry Reservoir to wear lifejackets — especially aftertwo adult brothers' bodies were found after an accident on their fishing boat and an extensive search and rescue operation less than a month prior.
The boy's name was not released, and Rigby said a medical examination would take place before officially confirming if drowning was the cause of death.
