SALT LAKE CITY — A state lawmaker who abruptly quit the Utah State Legislature Tuesday is facing new allegations of soliciting an escort for sex.

Daily Mail reports Jon Stanard, who quit the legislature in the middle of a session, paid $250 each for two one-hour sessions with a 39-year-old escort named Brie Taylor.

Stanard’s former website, which has been deactivated, indicated he supports conservative family values and traditional marriage. He was also named as one of the top 10 most conservative House members of 2014, the website said.

Daily Mail published screen shots of text messages purportedly exchanged between Stanard and Taylor. The screen shots appear to show several text conversations between the pair in which they arranged or attempted to arrange appointments at various hotels Stanard stayed in last year.

“Taylor claims he paid her $250 for each of the one-hour sessions in June and August during which she says she performed oral sex on him and they had intercourse,” Daily Mail’s report said.

A statement released by House Speaker Greg Hughes’ office Wednesday cited “personal and family reasons” for Stanard’s departure from the legislature.
