SALT LAKE CITY — LDS Business College will change its name to Ensign College, the school announced Tuesday.
The name change will officially take place September 1, the beginning of the new academic year.
This change is the latest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' effort to move away from abbreviations and nicknames of the church, such as "Mormon" or "LDS."
The church previously changed the name of its world-famous choir from the "Mormon Tabernacle Choir" to "The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square." It also changed many of its websites and social media pages to get rid of the terms "LDS" or "Mormon."
In the same announcement Tuesday, the school also announced that it will introduce three bachelor of applied science degrees beginning in the fall 2021 semester: Business management, communications, and information technology. It will also increase its online curriculum.
Ensign College will still be a part of the church's official Church Educational System.
"The mission of the school to produce graduates who are spiritually well-grounded and professionally prepared will not change," the announcement read.
