MURRAY, Utah — Firefighters were responding to an apartment fire near 780 East at 5000 South Thursday morning.

According to a spokesperson for the fire department, one person is critically injured and their two dogs died in the single unit fire at Three Fountains apartments.

The victim was listed in critical condition. According to neighbors, the woman is in her 70s.

The 911 call came in around 5:45 a.m. and crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the apartment.

The good news is they were able to quickly get a lot of water and resources into that condo and kept the fire contained to the one unit.

But when they got inside they found the victim who was incapacitated. She was then rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

During a further search of the condo, firefighters found the victims' two dogs which sadly, did not make it.

Now that the flames are out investigators are trying to pinpoint exactly what caused the fire but the initial indication is it started in the kitchen area.
