SAN JUAN CO., Utah — The National Parks Service has identified the body found near Lake Powell as 50-year-old Robert Sanders from Centennial, Colorado.
According to the press release, Sanders was reported as missing after not returning to his houseboat from a hike in Mountain Sheep Canyon.
Search operations took place from September 20 to 22, and ground crews, a helicopter from Classic Lifeguard, NPS fixed wing aircraft and a dive team participated in the search.
Sanders body was found on land on September 22. Searchers found tracks that looked like he hiked along the shore of Lake Powell before turning inland.
He was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
