SALT LAKE CITY — One person has been seriously injured and transported to the hospital after a large barn fire in Salt Lake City.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department received calls at 10 a.m. about a large burning north of the airport. When crews arrived at the fire near 3200 West and 3300 North, the barn loaded with hay bales was fully engulfed in flames.
Due to the distance of the barn, fire officials set up a 2-mile water shuttle with engines to transport water to the nearest hydrant. All roads are currently closed to traffic to allow for water shuttle operations to assist with the fire.
Over 100 firefighters are on the scene from 21 units. Hazmat teams are also nearby to keep diesel tanks at the site cool so they do not explode.
It's not known how the unidentified person was injured in the fire, and the barn is considered a total loss.
Firefighters are expected to be on the scene for several hours to move the hay bails from the area and spread them out.
