    First Big Fall Storm!

These are a few viewer photos of the beautiful sunrise we had along the Wasatch Front this morning.   By Friday morning, you might be taking pictures of some snow on the upper benches!  A slow-moving storm will bring cold, wet weather through the end of the work week.  Luckily, it’ll be sunny and a lot warmer by the weekend.

    Remember Winter?

This is a picture I took of Sugarhouse Park back in January after a snow storm. At the time, I couldn’t wait for summer to get here. Guess what?  Now that it’s baking hot, I wouldn’t mind stepping back into that cold air for just a little bit of relief!   Luckily, real relief is on the way.  Increasing clouds along with a chance of showers will cool us off several degrees on Thursday & Friday.

    Get Ready For Rain!

We’re getting a holiday from any bad weather for Memorial Day.  Tomorrow we won’t be as lucky.  The first in a series of storms will arrive on Tuesday and bring cool, wet weather  that will last through the middle of the week.  Rain is likely in the valleys with accumulating snow possible in the mountains.  You can turn off the sprinklers and save on the water bill!

    Too Hot Too Soon?

It’s going to feel more like summer than spring again today! Temperatures are going to run about 20 degrees above average with record heat possible across most of the state.  If that’s too hot for you, relief is on the way.  A dry cold front will slide across Northern Utah tonight and knock temperatures down into the mid 80’s along the Wasatch Front by Tuesday.  Southern Utah will cool off a little by the middle of the week.

    Hitting The Slopes? Better Hurry!

This is a photo I took at Solitude yesterday, which was probably my last day of skiing this year.  Sunday is closing day for most of the ski resorts!  The season will last a little longer for Brighton, which will close on April 21.  Alta will be open on weekends through the end of April.  The season at Snowbird will last through Memorial Day (May 27).

    The Winds of Change!

A storm moving into Utah today will bring rain, snow, and a chance of thunderstorms.  But the biggest problem could be the wind! The worst of it will be along the Wasatch Front.  East winds could gust between 50 to 70 mph by this afternoon & evening and last through Tuesday!  That’s going to make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.  Downed tree limbs and power lines are a possibility. It’s a good idea to secure loose outdoor objects […]

April Is Here…And So Are The Showers!

It’s like an April Fools’ Day joke by Mother Nature!  After a beautiful Easter weekend, a slow moving storm will bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across most of Utah today.  It’s warm enough that most snow will be above 8,000 feet with just slushy accumulation over the mountain passes tonight.  The storm will move east of the state by tomorrow evening.  It’ll become sunny again during the middle of the week with temps bouncing back as high as they […]

    The First Spring Storm!

Spring is officially here but it might look and feel more like winter across parts of Utah over the next few days!  Rain is likely in the northern and central valleys today, with snow likely above 7,000 feet.  Snow levels could drop to the valley floor behind a cold front tomorrow morning.  Luckily, surface temps are warm enough that we won’t get much if any accumulation in the valleys.  Even so, plan on wet roads during the morning commute!

    A Warm Week Ahead

Spring doesn’t officially begin until next week, but over the next few days we’ll get a preview.  A combination of high pressure and southwest winds will help temperatures climb well above average by the end of the week.  The Wasatch front will likely make it into the mid 60’s by Thursday and Friday, while temps will hover near 80 by then in St. George.  Be careful, you might catch “spring fever”!

    Another Snowy Day!

I think I might get some exercise shoveling the driveway again today! (Great way to burn off some holiday calories, right?) Light snow is likely through this afternoon over Northern & Western Utah.  The valleys could get another couple inches of accumulation with several inches possible in the mountains.  By later tonight, the storm will move east of the state.  High pressure building over Utah tomorrow should keep it dry heading into the weekend.  The problem is that an inversion […]

    A Warm Wednesday!

Winds have picked up ahead of a storm that will move across Arizona tomorrow.  Since they’re out of the south, temps are running well above normal for this time of year.  In fact, it’ll be near 50 along the Wasatch Front this afternoon.  So hopefully you’ll get a little break on the heating bill today!  South winds will be at about 15-25 mph over the western half of the state, possibly gusting up to 40 mph, and then decrease this […]

    Holding Your Breath Again?

Valley inversions are keeping it hazy again today, but you should be able to breathe easier as early as tomorrow.  Warmer temperatures and southwest winds will help to break up the inversion on Wednesday.  All the haze might not get scoured out, but visibility will improve.  In the morning it will clear off on the benches, and later in the day at the bottom of the valleys.
