WEST JORDAN, Utah -- The first time her home caught fire, it was difficult to handle. The second time, it was devastating.

"I went to bed, and about 3:45 we got a call saying our house was back on fire again," said home owner Danni Morgan.

She said the fire first started on Saturday night while she and her husband were asleep.

"My son was downstairs on the computer when the dog started barking," Morgan said. "He went up and found the patio doors on fire."

Morgan and her family ran outside without shoes and socks on and waited for firefighters, but her most priceless possessions remained inside.

“I’m heartbroken because I’ve lost all my family information, all of my family reminders, and pictures," Morgan said.

Morgan says the hardest part came after the initial fire Saturday. She said the family had packed up and headed to a hotel to spend the night. Firefighters left the home too, thinking the fire was out and the damage was minimal; however, the flames sparked back up overnight, overcoming the entire home.

"It's hard, but we're still alive, and that's what counts," Morgan added.

While dealing with the harsh reality that the family home was a total loss, Morgan said a kind stranger help provide a brief moment of support that was badly needed.

“I wish I knew who it was, but there was a gentleman that was a Katrina survivor and he stopped and gave us a hundred dollars," Morgan said. "He was a total stranger. I wish I knew who he was and could tell him, 'thank you' because every little bit helps.”

The family will be spending the next two weeks at a hotel while investigators work to determine the cause of the fire. In the meantime, Morgan says her two daughters are on their way home from college for Christmas. A Holiday season the family will likely spend looking for a new place to live.

Anyone who would like to support the family can donate to the family's GoFundMe page.
