DAVIS COUNTY, Utah -- The goal of a new University of Utah health center in Davis County is to provide access to world-class health care, but much closer to home.

The brand new facility opened earlier this week and is now accepting patients.

“It brings together all the services that you could possibly need or want,” said Gordon Crabtree, interim CEO for University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics.

That claim is also the entire theme behind a new health center in Davis County.

“In Farmington we selected a site for a multi-specialty healthcare center, where these kind of unique services can be delivered to patients where they live, as well as the normal things like primary care and other kinds of activities that go on in a normal clinic,” Crabtree said.

Nearly 40 percent of University of Utah Health Care's patients come from outside the Wasatch Front, making this clinic even more important.

“Having one here in Davis County simply means those in Weber County, and Box Elder and others, all the way into Davis County, can be served by this kind of a center,” Crabtree said.

And it's not just a good thing for patients. Students studying medicine, pharmacy and nursing at the U of U will also use the new clinic as a hands-on learning center.

"We’ll be here, we’ll be from the medical school, but we do have rotations at different locations throughout Utah, and so this will be just one new location for us,” said Tyson Schwab, a third year medical student.

Because the center is brand new, it's filled with the latest technology and best equipment for healthcare.

“It’s just a real good opportunity for medical students to train and practice here because that’s going to be the future of medicine, that’s going to be the standard for us when we’re practicing medicine,” Schwab said.

The students love all the added specialties as well.

“The thing that I love most about this location is it really is a one stop shop,” Schwab said. “They have everything from ophthalmology to oncology to primary care, urgent care, obstetrics, gynecology, they have everything here."
