HIGHLAND, Utah — A Cedar Hills man was found dead Thursday morning after he was reported overdue from a hike in American Fork Canyon.

According to a news release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Arthur Wayne Wiseman left for a short hike around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. He was expected to return before dark.

Family members looked for Wiseman in the Mineral Basin area, but couldn’t find Wiseman or his truck, the news release said. Deputies were dispatched to American Fork Canyon around 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

Around 5:50 a.m., a man who was hiking above the Granite Flat campground used the emergency phone at Tibble Fork Reservoir to report he found a body near the Silver Lake Flat Road, the news release said.

UCSO investigators responded and determined the body was that of Wiseman. According to the news release, Wiseman appeared to have stopped hiking and he took off his gloves and glasses.

The body was recovered and taken to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner. The news release said there didn’t appear to be any trauma on the body and the death is not suspicious, but the cause of death isn’t known.
