OREM, Utah – “Can I shoot or take action against someone that is dressed up like a clown?”

That is the type of question Orem officers say are inundating the department.

Officers have taken to Facebook to respond to the rumors of clown sightings in Utah County and beyond.

The post begins, “Here’s seven words we never thought we’d be saying…..’Let’s have a serious talk about clowns.'”

The department said it answered about 50 concerned residents on Facebook and took dozens of calls.

The number of questions wasn’t concerning to them, it was what people were asking that was the issue.

In the post, officers emphasize not to believe everything you read on social media or the internet.

They are reminding residents of Utah’s law on using force against another person.

And no, you can’t just shoot someone dressed as a clown because they are dressed as a clown.
