Fitness expert, Denise Druce, tells us about the importance of including walking or hiking in your workouts no matter your age.

Walking Tips:

  • Get a buddy or walking club for accountability- meet at the same time and place
  • Invest in some good walking shoes and water belt or camelback so you can stay hands-free
  • Skip the hand weights, do you resistance training after you walk
  • Work up from a few minutes to an hour a day
  • Light stretching after your walk

Hiking Tips:

  • Always go with a partner or group
  • Start with small hiking trails and work up to more strenuous hikes
  • Invest in a good pair of hiking shoes and socks
  • Carry a light backpack with water, first aid kit, a loud whistle, poncho and a headlamp or flashlight
  • Consider a sunset or night hike with a group of friends
