Imagine jumping out of a plane, only without a parachute. LUKE AIKINS SKYDIVER JUMPS WITHOUT CHUTE 3

Skydiver Luke  Aikins, of Washington State, did just that Saturday in a live televised event.

Aikins jumped from a plane in California without a parachute or even a wing suit, and instead he landed on a 100-foot by 100-foot safety net strung up on several cranes about 200 feet off the ground.

He was traveling at about 120 mph when his body hit the net, and afterward he appeared to be OK.

At the beginning of the broadcast it was revealed Aikin had been told he had to wear a parachute during the jump after all, but shortly before the big moment that requirement was lifted and he was able to jump unencumbered.

The 42-year-old husband and father said he would use air currents to help him land safely in the net.

Heaven Sent aired on FOX 13 at 7 p.m. Saturday, and the video will be available on YouTube starting Sunday.
