MILLARD COUNTY, Utah — A large wildfire in Millard County has consumed about 5,068 acres and is 25 percent contained, according to fire officials Tuesday.

The Lower Ebbs Fire, ignited by a lightning strike, has caused a temporary road closure along a frontage road from Holden to Scipio Summit. Burning in Ebbs and Wild Goose Canyons, the flames are visible from Millard, Sevier and Sanpete Counties, according to a press release from Central Utah Fire Interagency.

At night, officials say, smoke may impact Highway 50 and Interstate 15 near Scipio and Holden.

As of Tuesday, firefighters established some fire lines on the western portion of the blaze. Eight hand crews, eight engines, four water tenders, two dozers, three road graders and several helicopters are on scene fighting the blaze.

The Maple Grove Campground is still open at this time.
