PROVO, Utah — BYU’s hopes of getting into the Big 12 Conference received a big boost when the league presidents unanimously decided to explore adding two to four teams. Commissioner Bob Bowlsby will begin contacting schools who are interested in joining the 10-team conference.
BYU has been considered a candidate to join the league, along with schools like Houston, Cincinnati, Boise State and Colorado State.
BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe issued this statement:
“We are obviously excited the leadership of the Big 12 has advised Commissioner Bob Bowlsby to review potential expansion candidates. BYU is known for its academic excellence and I believe we have an exceptional athletic program. As I’ve stated before, I would like to see our student-athletes compete at the highest level.”
