SALT LAKE CITY -- Donald Trump has postponed the official announcement of his Vice Presidential pick, but a number of news outlets, including CNN, confirmed that he offered the post to Governor Mike Pence of Indiana and Pence accepted.

Pence faced a deadline of his own, having to inform his own State Government whether he would seek reelection as governor.

Kirk Jowers is a former advisor to John McCain and Mitt Romney, and he believes Donald Trump botched the process of selecting a running mate by narrowing the choices to three “old white guys.”

He says vetting possible VPs was an opportunity to fight a common perception of Trump.

“He did not put any women or minorities into the upper ranks of this selection process, and his biggest challenge is that he's got to expand the pie to win,” said Jowers, referring to Democratic advantages among women and minority groups.
