SALT LAKE CITY -- A man wanted for numerous felonies who officers said fled from police during a vehicle chase Wednesday was arrested Saturday after he briefly barricaded himself inside a Salt Lake City motel room.

The man is also a suspect in an early Saturday morning shooting in Murray.

Officers responded to the Skyline Inn, 2475 East 1700 South, around 4 p.m. after receiving information indicating 31-year-old Andrey Tkachenko was at the location.

Det. Ken Hansen, Unified Police Department, said Tkachenko was the suspect in a police chase that was called off Wednesday, and the man also has several felony warrants out of drug court.

Hansen said the man is believed to have been a suspect in an incident in Murray early Saturday morning in which shots were fired.

Murray Police said witnesses reported a man and woman were arguing just after midnight near 4500 South and 700 East, when the man pulled out a gun and fired three to four shots.

Witnesses told police the two people then fled. No one was hit during that incident.

When officers arrived to the Skyline Inn on Saturday afternoon, Tkachenko briefly barricaded himself and three others inside the motel room and refused to come out.

Hansen said SWAT was activated, and a crisis negotiator made contact with the suspect over the phone. Police evacuated some patrons of the motel and asked others to shelter in place.

Within a few minutes of the negotiator making contact, Tkachenko surrendered without further incident. He was arrested by detectives with the Taylorsville Street Crimes unit.

Another man and two women who were in the room as well were questioned by police. Hansen said a search of the motel room turned up with stolen property and drug paraphernalia.

UPD was assisted by police from West Valley City, Salt Lake City and the Metro Gang Unit.
