USU student identified as missing hiker found dead at bottom of cliff near Alta

ALTA, Utah — Unified Police have identified the 22-year-old hiker found dead in Little Cottonwood Canyon as USU student Amanda Marie Caseiro.

She is originally from New Jersey and was attending school in Utah.

A search and rescue crew found her dead at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff Wednesday morning after she disappeared Tuesday afternoon.

The Unified Police Department said in a tweet that it appears Caseiro may have slipped.

Authorities said Caseiro was alone when she disappeared.

Police were called when she never returned.

Crews searched the Cecret Lake area with a helicopter and ATVs.
