Financial expert Rachel Langlois, from Cyprus Credit Union, shared ideas on how to save on summer parties. With the 4th of July around the corner, many people will be spending hundreds of dollars on barbecues and parties. To reduce the chances of going into debt Rachel encourages people to do a few things:

  • Use the "Skip-A-Pay" option at banks. This allows individuals to skip a consumer loan payment for just $30, this is a great way to find cash for a summer vacation or summer activities for your family.
  • Encourage potluck dinners. Even if it is just asking attendees to bring something simple like a dessert or drinks. It will help to reduce the overall cost of providing food for a large group of people. Rachel also recommends buying dinnerware, linens, and decorations during the offseason when they will most likely be on sale.
  • Attend free events offered by the community. During the month of July cities around the state of Utah put on free concerts, carnivals, fairs, and firework shows. To check out the events near you look at the community calendar.
