SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City police officer went to a hospital to get a tetanus shot Saturday night after he was attacked and bitten by a man believed to be under the influence.

According to police at the scene, the incident occurred near the Salt Palace Convention Center, 142 West 200 South, as an officer in uniform was working as private security for an event.

Police said a transient man attempted to enter the facility on multiple occasions, with the officer telling the man he was not allowed inside. At one point the man assaulted the officer, including biting him.

While it was not clear to what extent the officer was injured, authorities said he was taken to a hospital to receive a tetanus shot in response to the bite.

Police took 31-year-old Luke Boyce into custody, and they said they believe the suspect was under the influence of spice when he allegedly attacked the officer.
