Our financial expert, Rachel Langlois with Cyprus Credit Union has helpful tips on how to save for summer vacations. For more information visit cypruscu.com.

Set a Budget - and Stick to It.
This is probably one of the hardest parts of a vacation. It's easy to sit at your kitchen table and decide how much to spend, it's another when you're actually on your trip and you encounter an unexpected expense. Budget in a little extra money in case of an emergency (or if you just can't resist that souvenir bracelet). If you don't use it, put it into your savings account when you return home from your trip as a little reward for staying on budget while on vacation.

Location. Location. Location.
If you're looking for a vacation on the cheaper side, avoid touristy areas that raise prices (and are extra crowded) during peak seasons. Consider visiting locations during their shoulder seasons when the weather is still good but the crowds are reduced and with that their prices. Also, sometimes it may be cheaper to fly into one city and road trip to your intended destination. Especially when wanting a beach vacation, you may also look at cities that are more off the beaten path but have the amenities you are looking for. Chances are, with a little research, you'll be able to find a similar destination minus the crowds.
