SOUTHERN UTAH — An 18-year-old boy from St. George is dead and a 16-year-old girl from Veyo is in extremely critical condition after a crash on SR-18, and neither teen was wearing a seat belt.

According to a post from the Utah Highway Patrol made Sunday, the crash occurred near mile post 17 as a northbound Chevy Cobalt drifted to the left and left the roadway for an unknown reason.

The vehicle rotated and slid across a grassy shoulder of the road, then the left wheels dug into mud and the vehicle overturned. The car rolled back onto the roadway, coming to rest on its wheels.

Both occupants of the car were not wearing seat belts, and both were ejected during the crash.

The male driver, 18-year-old Drex Taylor of St. George, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The female passenger, a 16-year-old from Veyo, was taken by helicopter to Dixie Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition.

Police state fatigue may be a factor in the crash, and they state there is no indication that drug or alcohol use played a role.
