Suspect in aggravated assault shot by Gang Task Force officer in Ogden

OGDEN, Utah — A suspect in an aggravated assault was shot by a Gang Task Force officer, Friday night.

The suspect was hit at least once and then taken to an area hospital. His injuries are not expected to be fatal, according to authorities.

It is unknown what prompted the gunfire at this time.

Ogden officer shoots suspect copyJust after 9 p.m., officers with the Metro Gang Unit were watching a location for a suspect in the area of the 3100 block of Grand Avenue. The male was wanted for aggravated assault after he brandished a gun and threatened someone earlier that day, according to a Facebook post from Ogden police.

“Officers encountered the suspect and one officer ultimately fired at the suspect,” police state.

The officer who shot the suspect is a 10-year veteran Ogden police officer currently assigned to the Gang Task Force.

The incident is currently under investigation.
