TAMPA, Fla. - Florida community is rallying around this precious little lady after she was left at a Tampa Bay animal shelter with a heartbreaking note.

The owner said in the note "Genie" is paralyzed from her hips down to her hind legs and she needs surgery.

But the owner said they couldn't afford it so they left her at the shelter asking for the facility to take care of her and find her a forever home.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay immediately went to work raising funds to help Genie and so far it has brought in more than $20,000.

It said Genie is doing much better and when she recovers, she will be ready to find her forever family.

"Genie is feeling more relaxed and secure and continues to be very brave in the face of her circumstance. She especially enjoys trips outside to sniff around and meet new friends. We will keep you updated on her progress."
