SALT LAKE CITY — Wanda Barzee is now in the Utah State Prison where she will begin serving her state sentence related to the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart.
Barzee was taken from the Salt Lake County Jail to the prison on Friday morning, the Utah Department of Corrections confirmed to FOX 13. She will spend some time being processed before determining where she will be housed, a prison spokesman said. It is expected that Barzee will be put in isolation due to the high profile nature of the crime.
Earlier this week, Barzee finished serving her federal prison sentence for her role in the abduction and was brought back to Utah. In 2002, Barzee and her husband, Brian David Mitchell, kidnapped Elizabeth from her home and held her captive for nine months. Mitchell is serving a life sentence in federal prison.
