Searchers perform ‘final’ sweep in Iron County for missing father

Posted

IRON COUNTY, Utah — A large number of searchers from multiple jurisdictions were joined by K-9 units and searchers on horseback Saturday as they performed a “final, thorough sweep” of the area where a father from Cedar City was last seen before going missing.

Brown went missing Monday night after the van he and his wife and children were traveling in got stuck on a mountain road in the Kane Springs area northwest of Parowan. He was reported missing Tuesday morning.

Due to cold weather during the week and Brown’s lack of winter clothing, Iron County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday they had transitioned from search and rescue to a recovery effort. They believe if Brown stayed in the area where he was last seen, he is likely dead. However, authorities are also investigating the possibility Brown deliberately left that area.

Iron County Sheriff’s Office personnel stated Friday they expected the snow to have melted enough by Saturday that, “If Brown’s body is on the ground, crews should be able to spot him.”
