Donald Trump to speak in Salt Lake City Friday; protest planned ahead of event

SALT LAKE CITY  -- From excitement to disdain,  Donald Trump's planned appearance in the Beehive State is making waves as the news makes the rounds.

According to Donald Trump's official website the Republican presidential nominee has changed the time and place he will speak. Trump will now speak at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 18th in the Infinity Events Center at 26 E 600 S in Salt Lake City. You can get register for tickets right here.

"It'll be great, very excited," said Mark Greer, who leads the online group Utah for Donald Trump.

A Trump volunteer said an office opened up in Draper on Friday, where many turned out and got trained to campaign.

Trump supporters will be met with protest. Students for a Democratic Society said they expect hundreds to turn out against Trump.

"Most likely we're going to have chants, we're going to have a pinata that looks like Donald Trump," Decker explained.

The protest is planned for 6 p.m. at Washington Square, followed by a march to the Infinity Events Center.

With support and hostility turning out side-by-side, there are concerns the event could turn violent.

Trump will be an absolute disaster for this country. I do not think he will make it past the democratic nominee though – which is even worse. Look at the polls. He always loses to the democrat.

Wake up people! What kind of judges do you think Trump will put on the Supreme Court? With his past history of supporting very liberal big government socialist democrats do you really think he is going to put someone like Antonin Scalia on the court. We need a very strong constitutional conservative to replace Antonin Scalia or this country will go down the liberal socialist big government control path and never recover.

Cruz is the only way this country survives. We need someone who will follow the constitution. Trump thinks he can do it all himself because he is so great. This country is not great because of a president it is great because of the people. But, this country can be destroyed by a bad president like Trump or one of the democrats.

Please, wake-up people! We need to restore the constitution to its rightful place and put constitutional conservatives on the Supreme Court.

You do realize Cruz would have to get 86% of the vote going forward right? If you think he will be crowned at the brokered convention they you do not understand how much he elites hate him as well.
Who needs the constitution when you ask congress to add 500K H1B visas to the country and say that is not enough? Cruz says constitution every other word and the violates it with his votes (or lack of).

Once again, Ted Cruz gets caught being a liar and a total hypocrite.
Is voting to fast track Obamatrade conservative to you? TPP
How about voting for the Corker bill, enabling Iran?
Is lobbying the senate for a 500% increase in H1B visas and a doubling of green cards a conservative move?

If you happen to be a woman, disabled or not a white bigot, Please dont vote for trump,, The world already looks at us like we’re dumb,, lets not vote for a reality tv star!! Also look up the new study that shows how sad/poor his grammar is….

    • Boo

Gender and race are irrelevant. Tell me why should I vote for a criminal female candidate, who has more blood on her hands than a butcher AND is about to be indited?

      • Terence W.

Not to be outdone, but it’s been said time and time again that she has done nothing wrong in terms of her email server or Benghazi. It was perfectly legal for her at the time to manage email on her own server (it isn’t now by government mandate made after the fact).

Trump single-handedly will lead our country into World War III by succumbing to the ideals of hatred, sexism, racism, bigotry, and violence that are already prevalent at his rallies and by his supporters. They’re called “Brown Coats”…a similar term found during the World War II and Hitler followers of his time.

As much as Hillary may have some circumstances that yes (I concede) make her a concerning candidate, Trump is FAR worse and would be a political embarrassment to America if he were elected.

      • Scott

@Terence really? Hillary’s private server, which was not secured well, was probably hacked by foreign governments. It also is functionally exempt from FOIA requests because it wasn’t a government server so nobody actually has full access to everything that was on it. The FBI is investigating her and the past few Secretaries of State, and they’ve stated it’s a criminal investigation.

Hillary, Cruz and Kasich will court war with Russia. If you’re going to talk about WW3, Trump is the only one who can prevent WW3. Our foreign policy is a disaster and the neocons are mostly to blame. Trump is the only one who’s not a neocon.

      • dgolightly519

They aren’t opinions, boo, but the conclusions of several investigations conducted by several agencies AND the opposition. You could try some research first next time.

It should also be stated that far more blame for Benghazi falls on the Republican majority-held lawmakers who cut embassy defense spending to nearly nothing despite that their party’s last president had an exponentially higher number of embassy attack deaths on his watch.

Additionally, Trump’s already clearly stated beliefs that non-Christians (I think it was non-Christians, maybe it was just Muslims) should have to wear identifying markers, WAS a Nazi policy. The only difference is the group targeted. To further rebut your claim about skirting war, pretty much EVERY first world country and several second world country has come out about how bad Trump would be for the world. Many of those statements specifically address how bad he’d be for world peace and foreign relations.

Meanwhile, worldwide approval ratings of our current President are at an all time high. Now, you can claim that’s because they can walk all over him, but the only country that’s walked all over him is Russia. And they don’t really like Obama, as is shown by their near constant mockery of him. But I can’t blame Russia, though I really don’t think we’ll go to war with them. They’ve always tried to be better at everything than us. That includes both bad goals and good goals. They aren’t very often better at accomplishing things than we are. I’d hate us too.

The KSL chopper has circled the fairgrounds at least twice today (very annoying)…and not a peep on their site. A little early? The fairgrounds are a strait shot from the airport via N. Temple. Why not?
Meanwhile…Glenn Beck and his Canadian/Goldman Sachs candidate, chose, Draper. An ineligible candidate and big banks….YEAH!
20 bucks, says Glenn starts crying, again. I wonder how many employees he could have kept on, if it were not for the purchase of the new Maybach and old DC-9?

With the recent complaints of Trump inciting people to violence, doesn’t it seem ironic, indeed inappropriate, for protesters to be smashing a Trump-like pinata. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

  • kpm nair (@kpm1119)

IT is very strange that the dirty tricks man Cruz (remember what he tried to do to the Carson and the erstwhile ” little”Rubio campaigns) , always telling lies while holding a holy book in one hand, is getting the Utah votes as per the current poles. This fraudulent, slimy, sneaky, creepy( just look at his calculating, cunning face). It looks like only God Can save America and it can never be great as it used to be.

    • dgolightly519

No bias there. You have an odd thesaurus, using the word ‘frightened’ instead of ‘war-weary,’ ‘humanitarian,’ or ‘anti-bigot.’

Your added overgeneralization and ad hominem ‘POS’ is icing on that cake.

      • dgolightly519

A far better question is, “why do you assume I don’t?” My answer to your question is this. I do protest the wars he has caused us to participate in. However, saying, ” he’s started several” is a bit unreal. Led us into, yes. Started? That’s a bit like saying congressional cuts to embassy budgets weren’t ultimately responsible for Benghazi. Sure part of the blame is with Hillary, but what exactly can she do with no budget? Pull from other embassies’ portion of the budget? I’m a realist.

  • mike

Students for a democratic society…..LOL….. the real story is…..we don’t want you all in this country….Donald Trump will win the presidency…get used to it. In a few years when these people are out in the real workforce…they will change their tune and become ardent conservatives……Fact.

    • dgolightly519

Lol. Typical fallacy. Most of us not for Trump are simply anti-BS. I work in the real world. Conservative states have higher federal program use versus how much their citizens pay into those programs. Fact.

      • liberalssuck

I love how liberal slobs opinions are facts, but when a conservative comes up with a fact it is an “opinion” or a fallacy….typical liberal verbal vomit and double speak

      Idiot, spoiled suburban kids.

Lol. Try, instead, raised in the school of the hard knocks. I wasn’t defending SFDS. Just pointing out an emotionally derived fallacy. My whole family is and always has been middle-working class. One doesn’t have to be spoiled or suburban to see through Shumps BS. I think I’m done with this thread now. Things an echo chamber of emotion and ignorance.

The protestors are what changed my mind to make me vote Trump. All of that protesting and what do they get? Hillary Clinton if Trump loses. Doesn’t sound like a bargain to me. College students just follow the leader anyway, whatever is “cool” and now protesting Trump is “cool” LMAO stupid kids.

Since Jan 1 until now, I have watched 60 of Mr Trump’s rallies – sometimes 2 and/or 3 a day!! – (I watched some in Dec but didn’t keep track of them) – I watch the rallies streaming live on Right Side Broadcasting online. Other than the obvious Chicago rally that was cancelled, there has been no violence at his rallies, other than the protesters punching and kicking peaceful Trump supporters and security – other than the one guy who punch the protester because he was giving everyone the finger. Most rallies, with thousands of people, usually have 1 or 2 or even a few protesters, who are gently removed from the area by security. A lot of the rallies have had no protesters. Before the rallies begin, the audience is told that if there is a protester to NOT TOUCH THEM, just wave signs and start yelling “Trump” or “USA” until the protester is removed. It is always the protester that is violent, although some of them are removed with no problems.Mr Trump tells security to be gentle with the protesters, to not hurt them. There have never been any riots at a rally, other than the premeditated violence in Chicago. It infuriates me to hear that Mr Trump’s rallies are violent and keep getting more violent – that is just a flat out lie. I know, because I have witnessed over 60 of his rallies. I wish now I would’ve kept track of how many protesters were at each rally! Why is it Mr Trump’s fault or his supporters’ fault because someone attends his rally for the sole purpose of disrupting his speech? We now know there is a Federal law against interfering when Secret Service agents are working, resulting in fines and jail time. These trouble-makers have been lucky that they weren’t arrested, although now Mr Trump is considering having them arrested just to put a stop to their stupidity. They are denying him his right to free speech and are denying his supporters from hearing the candidate of their choice. We either live in a free country or we don’t. It’s according to whose side you’re on whether your have any rights or not. It’s time We The People stand up for ourselves and for Mr Trump, so that we can have our peaceful rallies without any protesters. They even give them a place outside the venue where they can protest to their hearts content, but that isn’t enough for them – they want their 10 seconds of fame on tv – and most of the time the cameras don’t show them anyway, and the cameras do not pick up whatever garbage they’re shouting, so they’re really just wasting everyone’s time, just to cause trouble. But it is untrue that his rallies are violent or that he encourages violence. Apparently it is ok if Sanders tells his supporters to disrupt Mr Trump’s rallies, or that certain people are encouraging and even hiring protesters to make Mr Trump look bad.

    • Sean Petersen

You might need to see a doctor. You must be severely delusional. Protestors are blocking his right to free speech? How on earth would he have spouted off all his dangerous, divisive rhetoric if he didnt have that right? If anything your beloved Drumpf would like to infringe on the right to free speech. Do some research and see what he has said about media that doesn’t speak kindly of him. I genuinely feel sorry for you. I could never swallow that kool-aid, but it seems like you’ve had more than a couple cups of it.

      • Frank Rombo

You want Kool-Aid? How about lying to Iowa voters about Dr. Carson or photo-shopping Rubio with Obama. Also, lied to Hawaii voters telling them Rubio was dropping out of the race. That candidate is Ted Cruz not Trump.

  • liberalssuck

Ten years ago, his campaign would have sputtered out within the first two weeks. Today, after a sharp pull to the left that has changed our politics and our media, Trump’s wild rhetoric is actually refreshing. And whether his hardcore supporters really love every one of his proposed policies or not, they absolutely love that he has the guts to come out and propose them.

This is bull. He’s talking about a 150 people and there were over 14,000 at the Bernie rally. Drumpf is worthless yet still has Fox News by the balls.
