SALT LAKE CITY — A man died after his dump truck fell 300 feet down a quarry in Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City police identified the victim as 53-year-old Blaine Linck. His coworkers at the Staker quarry noticed he was missing at about 12:30 Wednesday morning. They found him and his truck submerged in water at the bottom of the quarry.

According to Salt Lake City police, the truck landed right side up, but the cab was under water.

“I’m not sure how the accident happened, but their employees were speculating that he might’ve just backed up a little bit too far,” said Capt. Mark Bednarik, Salt Lake City Fire Department.

Coworkers pulled Linck from the truck and administered CPR until emergency responders arrived, but the his injuries were too severe. Linck was pronounced dead at the scene.
