OREM, Utah — The Orem Police Department has released a map of the procession route for Officer Doug Barney, a Unified Police Department officer who died Sunday in the line of duty.

Barney’s funeral will be held Monday, January 25 at 11 a.m. at the Maverik Center in West Valley City. The map released Friday shows the procession route through Orem, beginning with the 1600 N exit from I-15 and traveling along 1600 N to 800 E.

A second map released Friday shows alternate routes along 2000 N, 1200 N and 800 N for drivers affected by the procession. Click here to see the procession route through Orem and click here to see the alternate routes.

Orem police expect the procession will enter the city some time around 2-3 p.m. Monday, stressing that it will have a large effect on traffic in the area.

“Please be patient and plan for an alternate route (See photo). We will do our very best to make this go as smooth as possible but you can help too. The best way is to share this information with anyone that might be traveling through the City at that time and for them to plan accordingly,” a Facebook posting by the department said.

Barney was shot and killed while responding to a traffic accident in Holladay Sunday. The suspect, Cory Lee Henderson, also allegedly wounded another UPD officer, Jon Richey, before being fatally shot a short distance from the first alleged crime.

Barney was 44.
