PARK CITY, Utah – Park City Resort opened on Saturday, and it’s making history as the largest resort in the nation this season.

The resort has seen $50 million of improvements, including a gondola that connects the former Canyons with Park City Mountain Resort that will be opening at the end of the month.

Crowds of people were lining up Saturday to get on the Payday lift.

“Just lovin’ it! It’s awesome,” said David Ameit, a snowboarder.

“We’re just happy to be out here,” said Darbie Francis.

“Yeah, we love skiing! Wooh!” exclaimed her sister, Daphnie Francis.

“I wouldn’t be anywhere else,” said skier Courtney McClung.

This summer, The Canyons and Park City were combined in a $50 million capital improvement project to make one mega resort.

“And today’s opening day!” said Bill Rock, chief operating officer for Park City Resort. “And people are excited to come check it out.”

Three lifts are open right now, but on November 27 the resort has plans to open all 300 trails, 41 lifts and 7,300 acres of terrain. The new gondola that connects the two resorts is called the Quicksilver.

“It’s got a brand new restaurant, Miner’s Camp, two new lifts, two restaurant renovations, so it’s a transformative project and our team did an awesome job getting it done on time,” Rock said.

Skiers and snowboarders say they’re excited about the improvements and were enjoying the part of the mountain that was open on Saturday.

“It’s the time of your life, man!” McClung said. “I mean, I’ve been waiting for this since last year, so I can’t wait to be out here, it’s exciting!”

Sunday, November 22, is the last day to purchase an Epic pass. It’s a season pass that will get you access to resorts in Colorado, Tahoe, and Park City Resort, as well as an international resort. For more information, click here.
