Fitness expert Mimi Sinclair shares tips on how to keep up your running during winter. She says you need to pay attention to these things in order to make it doable:
-Lighting: So important for people to be seen if they are running when it's dark out. Wear reflective clothing and front and back lights.
-Winter Clothing: Do not wear cotton, as it will actually make you colder. You need to wear tech material.
-Winter Training:
*If outside, take a few extra minutes to warm up. Your muscles will need the time.
*Start out heading into the wind so you're coming home with a tail wind when you're sweaty.
*Change quickly out of running clothes so you don't get chilled.
*If inside, treadmill classes or treadmill workouts are a great option.
*Good time to Cross Train. Pick a cycling program or add in yoga and weights to your weekly routine.
*Destination races or training weekends in warmer weather. Helps keep the motivation through the winter months. St. George has a half marathon and 5K in January. Las Vegas has a full marathon, half marathon, and 5k in February, Moab half marathon in March.
