GRANTS, NM – A murder suspect in New Mexico is blaming “The Walking Dead” TV show for his actions.

Damon Perry told police he was binge-watching episodes of the show with a friend when he thought the man was turning into a zombie, so he beat him to death.

“In my 13 years of doing this, that was the most brutal scene that I have ever seen,” Grants Police Sgt. Moses Marquez said.

Officers said Perry admitted to punching and kicking Christopher Paquin until he was unconscious.

Police said it appears Perry beat his friend with an electric guitar, a microwave and stabbed him with a knife.

“The suspect alleges that his binge-watching of The Walking Dead caused him to see his friend as turning into a zombie,” Sgt. Marquez said.

Officers first learned there was an issue at the apartment after getting a 911 call about a man chasing a woman around the complex with a knife, KOAT reported.

Two maintenance workers were able to tackle Perry and hold him down until police arrived.

Investigators are still working to determine the timeline of Paquin’s death.

“There are some things in this case that I don’t think we’ll ever know, like when the microwave was used, when the guitar was used and when the knives came into play,” Sgt. Marquez told KOAT.

Perry told officers he and Paquin had been drinking before he killed the man.

Grants officers said Perry has a history of alcohol-related run-ins with the law and has been aggressive towards officers and others in the past.

Perry is now facing murder charges.
