SALT LAKE CITY – The Center for Digital Government is recognizing a Utah website for its success.

Locate.Utah.gov was launched last May, and the website helps people locate businesses where broadband is available and also includes transportation, workforce and lifestyle features.

The site was launched by the Utah Broadband Outreach Center and the Utah Department of Technology, and this year, the Center for Digital Government honored them with the Digital Government Achievement award for their success.

“This is a brand new design, we tried to design it for this very specific business use case, and we brought in some of the graphic design talents outside of our office, to really polish it and give it a professional bright look and feel,” said Bert Granberg, Director of the Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center.

Granberg helped launched the website, and he said thinking outside the box is necessary for economic development. He believes this site has been a great method.

“We tend to work in natural resources, energy, environment, transportation, traditionally, and I think this represents a new foray for us into economic development, and I think everybody is really excited to see that," he said.

And while locate.utah.gov was designed for the business audience, Kelleigh Cole with the Utah Broadband Outreach Center said it can also be helpful for people who have just moved to Utah.

“They can find information on broadband, utilities, workforce, very easily, and it encourages them to consider Utah,” Cole said.

Cole said the website has helped both businesses and people to locate services that may seem out of reach.

“A few months ago, we had a business contact us to find out what services were available in a rural area, and we were able to locate a fiber line right across the street from their facility, and they were very pleased with the speed and ease of that information,” Cole said.

The Center for Digital Government will present the Utah Broadband Outreach Center and Utah Department of Technology services with the Digital Government Achievement award in Louisiana at the end of the month.
