MURRAY, Utah — Police are searching for a suspect who may be connected to a string of thefts after a driver evaded police and eventually abandoned the vehicle.

Things began in Murray around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday when a detective with the Unified Police Department spotted a car with an expired tag.

The detective tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver went up and down Box Elder Street to evade the officer. A short time later, the officer observed the vehicle rolling down a street without anyone inside.

The officer stopped the vehicle from rolling, but didn’t see anyone around. Police said a search of the vehicle revealed evidence of car thefts.

“We did a search of the car, found a bunch of items that are consistent with other stolen vehicles,” said Sgt. Chad Reyes of the Unified Police Department. “…Burglary tools, some narcotics, and, like I said, items consistent with stolen vehicles: shaved keys and those sorts of things.”

A search of the area did not reveal the suspect, and anyone with information about the suspect or thefts is asked to contact UPD.
