Large tortoise on the loose in Logan

A very large tortoise was on the loose in Logan again Tuesday.

Animal control was called to pick up a 40-pound tortoise seen strolling down Temple View Ave.

When the officer arrived, he recognized the tortoise and he knew where it came from because another tortoise from the same owner escaped just last year.

The officer said it was a precarious situation and a close call for the tortoise.

"The tortoise could have got on the road and got hit and being animal control, our first priority is to take care of the animals,” said Officer Floyd Powell, Logan City Animal Control. “Second, if the tortoise was on the road, a car could have come and swerved to miss the tortoise and hit another car, or could have caused an accident."

Officer Powell convinced the owner to relocate the tortoise inside his home to prevent future escapes attempts.
