The Utah Highway Patrol has just posted a new video that serves as a graphic reminder to drivers; slow down and move over. UHP reminds drivers to move over

In the YouTube post, troopers said they wear bullet-proof vests but the protective gear is useless against another type of speeding bullet, vehicles.

“We want our folks to be safe. We know they can be safe if the public can do its job by slowing down and moving over,” said Col. Danny Fuhr of Utah Highway Patrol.

In July, UHP Trooper David Schiers was nearly killed when a car struck him as he assisted with another accident.

“It is scary. I mean, you’re sitting there on the side of the road and within feet of you people are driving by at 80 plus miles an hour,” Fuhr said.

UHP is warning drivers that cars are just as dangerous as bullets for anyone on the side of the road.

Troopers’ reminder to drivers:

* SLOW DOWN – Do not slam on your brakes
*MOVE OVER A LANE – If it is safe to do so
*LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO – Not at the scene on the side of the road
