Driver escapes after truck catches fire along I-15

Posted

MURRAY, Utah -- A flat-bed truck became engulfed in flames along I-15 near 5900 South in Murray Thursday evening, and that blaze sparked a small grass fire that was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

Sgt. Todd Royce of the Utah Highway Patrol said the driver of the truck made it out of the vehicle without injury, but the engine and cab of the truck were destroyed. FOX 13 News first heard report of the fire around 5:30 p.m.

Investigators said witness information indicates the brakes on the truck overheated, sending flames that spread up the side of the truck. The fire was extinguished, and crews were working to keep spilled diesel fuel from reaching nearby storm drains.

The fire did not cause any major impact to traffic in the area.

Utah Department of Transportation cameras at the scene captured footage of the fire and emergency response.
