SALT LAKE CITY — The Best Friends Animal Society is promoting adoption this July during their busiest time of year, and they say more animals are taken to shelters after the July 4th holiday than any other time.

The folks at Best Friends’ adoption center in Sugar House says this is because many animals run away from home because they’re scared of fireworks.

The animals feel threatened by the loud noises and bright lights, but there are things you can do to keep your animals safe at home.

“First and foremost, the most important thing you can do is make sure your animals are inside, safe and secured tonight during the fireworks season and also make sure that your animals are collared and tagged at all times,” said Lawrence Nicolas of Best Friends Animal Society. “You never know when they’re going to get scared and run away, so making sure that they always have a collar and tag on is very important.”

The Best Friends Center in Sugar House is offering adoptions for animals 6-months or older for just $25 to the first 100 adopters in July. For more details about Best Friends, click here.
