Crowd reactions - In a landmark opinion, the Supreme Court ruled Friday that states cannot ban same-sex marriage, establishing a new civil right and handing gay rights advocates a victory that until very recently would have seemed unthinkable.

Justice Anthony Kennedy authored today’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

In closing his opinion, he wrote this passage, which is moving many to tears:

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.

The judgment of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit is Reversed.

It is so ordered”

The Supreme Court extended the right to marry to same-sex couples nationwide in a landmark ruling on Friday.

The 5-4 ruling had Justice Anthony Kennedy writing for the majority with the four liberal justices. Each of the four conservative justices wrote their own dissent.

  • Is God a spoiled rotten petty little punk?

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family.”

This is the essential act that takes place in a marriage. It is an expression of one person to another person that they will love them, be faithful, devoted and make the sacrifices necessary for a shared life. It is not about kids or procreation. It is not about what God does or doesn’t want. Like Desmond Tutu has said. If God does exist and is a bigoted homophobic pile of garbage then no decent or moral person would ever follow a powerful being that is so immoral or evil. People keep telling people that loving someone of the same gender and being willing to love them is a sin in the eyes of God and he is going to send us all to hell if we support that. Fine. Here is something these people can share with God in their prayers to him:

Threaten us all you want. We are not afraid of evil and will do what is right regardless f if its true that ou exist and are the most powerful being in the universe and are going to torment us for eternity because we are MORAL people who could never be evil even if someone or something that calls itself God commands us to do it or they are going to torment us. Waaaawaaaaawaaaaaaawaaaaaawaaaaawaaaaaa. Cry us a river of tears God because we are done with your petty little childish threats.
