SALT LAKE CITY - Parts of the Bangerter Highway were closed Thursday morning after a car hit and killed a woman walking in the roadway.

Authorities were called to the southbound lanes of Bangerter near 1700 South at about 4:30 a.m. where the driver hit and killed 34-year-old Lynette Kristina Hill.

Officers said it appears Hill, who was a transient, was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident.

The Utah Highway Patrol said it isn't sure why Hill was walking on the roadway in such a dark area.

According to UHP the driver who hit Hill didn't see her walking on the roadway in the dark until it was too late.

Officials said the driver immediately stopped and is cooperating with police.

Troopers said the information on the victim's license is not current and they are having trouble tracking down her next of kin.
