TOQUERVILLE, Utah — A Santa Clara woman died Monday morning in a crash near Toquerville Falls.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Mark Wyler of St. George and 20-year-old Cierra Perez were driving on a dirt road near the recreation area when the vehicle went off a cliff Sunday night.

Wyler, who was driving the vehicle, called 911 Monday morning saying he’d woken up in the wrecked car. He told dispatchers Perez was thrown from the car, and believed she had died.

Washington County deputies responded to the scene and confirmed Perez had died. Search and Rescue volunteers assisted in bringing Perez’s body up from the bottom of the ravine.

Terri Draper, spokeswoman for Dixie Regional Medical Center, confirmed Wyler was brought to St. George and that he was in serious condition.

Deputies and Utah Highway Patrol officials are investigating the cause of the accident and whether or not alcohol was a factor. Investigators said they do not believe Wyler and Perez were wearing seat belts.
