PENROSE, Utah – A man was killed Thursday after he attempted to stop his motorcycle to avoid hitting another vehicle, and officials said it appears the man hit his head against the other vehicle as the motorcycle went down onto its side.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on State Route 102 near mile post 6 in Penrose around 3:35 p.m.

A minivan traveling south on the two-lane highway slowed to make a left turn, and then it turned left in front of a northbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist attempted to stop, and in doing so the motorcycle tipped on its side.

Officials stated it does not appear the motorcycle hit the minivan, but they stated the operator’s head struck the right, front wheel of the minivan. The man was not wearing a helmet, and he suffered severe head trauma.

The motorcycle operator, identified as 35-year-old Brandon L. Rose of Penrose, was pronounced dead at the scene.
