CHILE – Sister missionaries in Chile are recovering after their apartment was broken into and two of the women were assaulted Thursday, according to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The LDS Church sent Fox 13 this statement Friday:

“Early yesterday morning, the apartment of four sister missionaries in the Chile Concepcion South Mission was broken into, and at least two of the sisters were assaulted. The accused perpetrators were later arrested. The sisters have received medical attention and are being cared for by appropriate professionals and by their mission president and his wife. We are profoundly saddened by this incident and pray for these missionaries and their families.”

Church officials said the two women who were assaulted are not from the U.S. but the two other sister missionaries who live with them are Americans.

The names of the missionaries have not been released.
