SALT LAKE CITY -- They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and this photo album is traveling thousands of miles to complete a story.

Vonda Jensen has a special interest in photography, and a few years ago health complications began limiting her ability to do what she loves to do.

“I couldn’t eat, I was probably healthy one or two days a week,” she said.

It was during that time, about 5 years ago, that she came up with the idea for a photographic traveling journal.

“I kind of wanted to start something bigger than myself,” she said. “I love photography. I’d love to be able to travel the world, unfortunately I can’t right now, so this is a great way to see the world through everybody else’s eyes.”

Jensen locates photographers around the world via Facebook, and when they connect she sends them a leather book so they can add photos and a journal entry about themselves before sending it back to Jensen.

Three journals and more than 80 photographers later, Jensen finally got to meet one of the contributors in person.

“I just looked him up, messaged him, asked if he would be interested, and he said yes,” she said.

Ryan Smith said he was glad to be a part of the project.

“Just to be involved is such an honor to me,” he said of the project.

“I’m friends with people in India and Iceland, Brazil and Argentina,” she said. “Without Facebook, I’m not gonna be able to connect with all of these people.”

Jensen’s Wonders of the World Journal has a full travel itinerary, which includes the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal and many natural wonders.
