WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A man was killed in what police are calling an accidental shooting in West Valley City, and the man reportedly put the gun to his neck and pulled the trigger without realizing a bullet was chambered.

Roxeanne Vainuku, West Valley City Police Department, said the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the area of 4605 West Dunsmoore Way (2965 South) in West Valley City.

Vainuku said the 57-year-old man had been drinking alcohol and was with friends. The man was showing his friends the gun when he took the magazine out of the gun and held the weapon up to his neck and pulled the trigger. The man apparently did not realize there was a bullet in the chamber, and the incident is being treated as an accidental shooting.
