DRAPER, Utah - A Canyons School District bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Thursday.

Draper Police said they were called to an accident involving a Canyons District school bus just after 7 a.m. at Sage Hollow Dr. and Mike Weir Dr. near Rambling Rd.

Police said the bus left the roadway as it entered the roundabout, hit a tree, ran over a street sign, hit another tree and came to a stop in the front yard of a home on the 1700 block of  E. Sage Hollow Dr.

Officials said an adult bus aide and a 13-year-old student who the bus just picked up were on board during the accident.

No one on the bus was injured.

According to Draper Police, the driver said he had taken a prescription medication at about 2 a.m.

Police arrested the driver for suspicion of driving under the influence.

A Class A misdemeanor violation of driving under the influence will be screened against the school bus driver because a student was on the school bus at the time.

Jennifer Tumor-Cook with the Canyons School District said the suspect was a substitute driver who has been with the district since August 2014.

She said the district notified the student's parents about the incident.

The identity of the bus driver has not been confirmed at this time.
