SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police arrested a man early Friday morning after he allegedly got into a woman’s car and forced her to drive him from Sugar House to the Avenues.

Tarren Antonio Gomez, 18, faces a second-degree felony charge of kidnapping/abduction in connection with the incident.

The victim told police Gomez jumped in front of her car, causing her to stop in order to avoid hitting him. According to a probable cause statement, Gomez then got into the car without the victim’s permission and told her to drive to the Avenues.

The victim said Gomez had a backpack with him and he reached into it, which made her think he may have been armed. The victim dropped Gomez off at a house near 9th Ave. and F st., the statement said, and Gomez told her to wait for him.

According to an SLCPD watch log, the victim then drove across the street and contacted police, who responded to the scene and began interviewing the victim.

As police were talking to the victim, Gomez exited the house and the victim identified him. Gomez was immediately taken into custody and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.

Police said Gomez smelled of alcohol when he was arrested. He also faces a Class C misdemeanor charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.
