WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- What started as a headlight violation turned into police finding a stolen car that the owner didn't even know was missing.

West Valley City Police Department officers pulled a driver over just after midnight Saturday in the area of 100 South and Redwood Road. When the vehicle stopped, both occupants exited the car and fled on foot into a nearby apartment complex.

Officers pursued on foot, and they used a police dog to locate both suspects.

“We were able to round them up pretty quick,” said Lt. Dalan Taylor of the West Valley City Police Department. “The officer did a good job as he was pursuing them. He was calling our directions for us and we were able to get units here pretty quick and get these guys taken into custody.”

The two men were booked on previous warrants as well as for possession of a stolen vehicle. When police contacted the owner of that vehicle, she said she wasn’t even aware it had been missing.
