SOUTH JORDAN Utah - A crash involving two cars on the Bacchus Highway at 10800 S. left a 4-year-old boy dead, and his mother later died due to injuries suffered in the crash, which also injured the driver of the vehicle.

Unified Police identified the 4-year-old boy as Zaven Meguerditchian of West Valley City, and the mother was identified as 31-year-old Rashelle Meguerditchian. Police officials confirmed to FOX 13 News just after 4 p.m. that the mother had died.

Emergency crews and a medical helicopter were called to the scene at about 6 a.m. Friday.

The Bacchus Highway is back open after being closed from 10200 S. to 11800 S. for the accident.

Authorities originally told FOX 13 News the boy was 10 years old.

They have now confirmed the boy was 4 and in a booster seat.

Officers said they believe everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.

South Jordan officers said a car was traveling northbound in the wrong lane and a southbound truck tried to swerve to avoid it.

The driver of the truck, a 31-year-old man, was initially in critical condition. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department said Friday night the man had improved and was in fair condition. The man's identity has not been released.
