WEST JORDAN, Utah -- A dashboard-mounted camera captured video footage of a West Jordan police officer and several citizens trying to save a man involved in a fiery car crash Wednesday night.

Police said Lucas Nunez-Manriquez drove across several lanes of traffic before crashing into a police near 9000 S 3400 W.

Shortly after crashing into the pole, Nunez-Manriquez's car caught fire and he was trapped inside.

The dash cam video (above) shows the scene from the perspective of West Jordan officer Walt Brockholt's police vehicle. By the time Brockholt arrived at the scene, several residents were assisting police in an attempt to extinguish the fire.

"It really was a great community effort because a lot of those people, they did a lot of the heroic actions themselves, knocking that fire down, breaking windows out, to get some of that smoke out of the car, and trying to get that victim out," Brockholt said.

Brockholt got inside the burning car to stabilize Nunez-Manriquez's neck as they waited for fire officials to arrive.

Nunez-Manriquez was extricated from the car and taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital, where he died a short time later.
